In the first census record taken within a year of his birth he is identified as Joseph Lee Brooks. In following records he seems to be identified as Joseph Henry Brooks. Possibly he was named Joseph Henry Lee Brooks and just dropped the Lee at a later time? I believe he was born in 1879 - as he is named in the 1880 census and was born before his sister, C/Katherine Ennis Brooks who was born on 3.15.1880.
