Thomas, his son Hallie, and brother-in-law William had a small band that played for local barn dances. Hallie played the guitar, and I think Thomas was the piano with William on the fiddle, but I could have Thomas and William mixed up on that account. My grandpa told me he thought they were quite good when he heard them as a child. He says they inspired him to learn the piano. I also believe my grandfather was named after William Jackson (his great uncle) who lived with Thomas and Ursula most of his life.

I remember seeing his first headstone at my grandfathers house. It was the stone used before Thomas' wife Ursula died. It was odd seeing it because my father's name is also Thomas. When I asked him about it he told me it made him feel creepy having a gravestone with his name on it sitting behind the barn.
