On 27 Oct 1850 at the time of the 1850 US Census, head of household John Brooks (age 54, born in GA) was employed as a Farmer and living in McNorton, Georgia on real estate valued at $350 with his wife Elizabeth Brooks (age 48, born in GA), son Benjamin C. Brooks (age 24, born in GA), son William D. Brooks (age 22, born in GA), son Henry A. Brooks (age 17, born in GA), daughter Nancy A.E. Brooks (age 15, born in GA), and daughter Mary A.J. Brooks (age 9, born in GA). John was born in Oglethorp; his wife was born in Columbia.[1]
Miss Nancy Ann Elizabeth Brooks was twice married: first to Bryant Stanley Howell on June 30, 1853 in Columbus, Georgia, who later died during service in the Civil War. Nancy and her children moved to Alabama where her brothers already lived. There, she married Carter Harrison about 1868. Nancy died about 1895 or so in Crenshaw County.[2]
