Melvin Walker Brooks was born on June 8, 1900, in King William, Virginia, [1] when his father, Sawney, was 47 and his mother, Blanche, was 30. He married Catherine Rose Nickens on February 19, 1925, in his hometown. [2] They had four children in 13 years. He died on July 14, 1970, in King William, Virginia, at the age of 70.
