Clement Broussard (Jean - of la Cote Gelee & Louise BROUSSARD) was born 23 Oct. 1809 and baptized 3 Feb. 1810 in St. Martin Parish, La. Paternal grandparents were Jean Baptiste BROUSSARD & dec. Anne BRAU; maternal grandparents were dec. Joseph BROUSSARD & Marguerite SAVOIE; Sponsors at baptism were: Dosithee BROUSSARD & Zelie BROUSSARD, all of this parish. Fr. Gabriel ISABEY (SM Ch.: v.6, #859) [1]Clement Broussard, age 55 years, died on September 5, 1866 recorded at the Catholic Church in Lafayette. [2]
He married Elizabeth Rowan 21 Oct. 1844 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Apparently, Clement and Elizabeth were married by a Justice of the Peace at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse on 21 Oct. 1844, [3]and again at the Youngsville Church shortly before he died in 1866. It is possible that Elizabeth was Protestant and perhaps didn't care to convert to Catholicism until Clement was near death. Clement on his sick bed recognized: Joseph; Elizabeth; Clementine; Clement; Jean, Emilie and Marie Lapelle. He had another son William, who must have passed away before 5 Sept. 1866 as a young child.[4]
