Biography

Twin of Nancy. DOB and DOD per unsourced family tree (Landis), 7 Sep 1812 - 6 Dec 1896 per Family Search and cemetery memorial.

Magdalena Brower married John Snell[1] by 1833 (birth of son Enos). John and Magdalena had at least eleven children. The couple lived in Ohio until at least about 1843 (birth in Ohio of daughter Nancy), then moved to Indiana by about 1845 (birth in Indiana of son Levi).

The 1850 U.S. Census recorded 40-year-old farmer John Snell and 37-year-old Magdalena Snell in Jackson Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana, with nine Snell children. Both John and Magdalena were born in Virginia.[2]

The 1860 U.S. Census recorded 50-year-old farmer John Snell in Jackson Township, Kosciusko County (Millersburgh post office), with Magdalena Snell, age 47, David Snell, age 21, a carpenter, Mary A. Snell, 19, Nancy P. Snell, 17, Levi Snell, 15, Susanah Snell, 11, John L. Snell, 9, Samuel Snell, 7, and Catharine Snell, 5. John and Magdalena Snell were both born in Virginia; David, Mary, and Nancy were born in Ohio, and the five younger children all were born in Indiana.[3]

In 1870, the U.S. census recorded 60-year-old farmer John Snell in Jackson Township (Liberty Mills post office), Kosciusko County, Indiana. He was prosperous, reporting $9000 in real estate and $1500 personal estate. Others in the household were Maglen Snell (his wife), age 57, Nancy P Snell, age 26, John L Snell, age 19, Samuel Snell, 17, and Catharine Snell, 14. John and Maglen were born in Virginia; Nancy was born in Ohio; and the three younger members of the household all were born in Indiana.[4]
