The first name Hewlett is probably from the Hewlett family of Long Island where the Browers originated. There was intermarriage between the Hewlett and Brower families, so it seems possible his parents were related to or were at least close to descendants of George Hewlett Sr. (1634-1722).
Family
Hewlett Brower and Millicent Young were married 26 Apr 1837 in Cape May Court House, New Jersey.[1]They were married by John Townsend, Jr. Elder; the marriage was recorded by Swain Townsend, clerk on 3 March 1838.[2]
On the 1850 census, Millicent is two years older than Hewlett. On the 1860 census, Hewlett was enumerated with a Mary Brower who was younger than him by three years, and there are two additional children aged 3 and 2 (an 8 year gap from the older children). This seems to indicate a remarriage after Millicent's death. There were six children in the family in 1850 and six older children in 1860, with a eight year gap between Eudora and her little brother Hewlett.
