Arthur Brown was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Post 91, Mower, LeMars, Iowa.

In August 1862 Arthur enlisted with Company K of the Illinos 74th Infantry. In January 1863 he was promoted to Corporal and to Sergeant in August that year. He was discharged in October 1864 due to wounds received in battle. An Iowa obituary says he lost his leg during the Battle of Lookout Mountain but that was in 1863. 1880 Census notes he lost his right leg.
