Clara was born about 1900.

Name

Her Hocąk name was given as MaNaHumpEWinKah (1921 census), which is for Mąnąhąbᵋwįga, "She who Throws Out Dirt", an attested personal name in the Bear Clan. It is from, , "earth, dirt, ground, land"; nąhąp, "to make a hole in a solid with the foot or by machinery'; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names.
