James Brown migrated from Ireland to Australia in before 1854.
James Brown was involved in events associated with the Eureka Rebellion at Ballarat.
James Brown was born about 1825 at (thought Newry) Ireland (although one recollection suggests he may have been from Co Wexford, Ireland)[1]).
He was part of the 1854 miner's uprising at Ballarat[2]. He was wounded on 3 December 1854 in the Eureka Stockade. Brown died in February 1855 from wounds sustained at the Eureka battle and his death was registered on 20 June 1855 registration number #3250. On his death certificate ‘when and where died’ 3 December is crossed out. In the side margin ‘February 1855’ is written by Pooley the registrar.[3]
He was buried 21 February 1855 at Ballaarat Old Cemetery, aged 29 years.[3]
