Biography
John was born about 1811.
He married Agnes Wilson.[1]
He emigrated with his wife, Agnes and two daughters, Isabella and Janet, on the Philip Lang in 1848, landing in Dunedin. The family moved to Nelson and settled there. He was listed on the passenger list as a mason aged 37.[2]
He lived at Russell Street, Nelson with his wife and children and was a stonemason before becoming an invalid.
Their children included:
- Andrew Brown - builder[3]
- Janet Brown - Mrs S. A. Leech. Mr S. A. Leech was a Harbour master, Westport.
- Isabella Brown - Mrs Alexander Brown. Alexander Brown was an Engineer at the Anchor Foundry, Nelson.
- Thomas Brown[4]
He died on 9 March 1886[5] at the residence of his daughter Isabella at the Port, Nelson aged 76.[6]
He was buried at the New Cemetery, Nelson.[7]
John was born about 1811. He passed away in 1886.
