Thomas was born about 1835-1838. [1] His father was Thomas Brown (farmer and/or weaver). As of 1856 he lived at Mabuoy, Lissan, County Londonderry.
On 2 Oct 1856 at Claggan Presbyterian, he married Margaret Crichton(minor) of Claggan, Lissan, daughter of John Crichton, farmer. Witnessed by William Blair and Samuel Campton. [2]
On 8 Nov 1867 at Desertlyn Church of Ireland, he (widower, Drumard, weaver) married Elizabeth Watson(20) of Carrydarragh, daughter of James Watson, farmer. WItnessed by William Watson and Samuel McLoughlin. [3]
After this they lived at Ballynenagh for a time (children born there), before moving to Ballymulligan. Living with Thomas were the children of his daughter Eliza Griffin who had died age 24 in 1895.
Identified these two marriage records as the same person because:
Griffith's Valuation for Mabuoy (ca. 1860) shows Thomas Browne (lot 82) and George Browne (lot 80). This remains unchanged in the 1860-1864 revision. However, in the 1864-1876 revision, Thomas has been replaced by James Ferguson, and George has been replaced by his neighbour Thomas Donaghy who now held lots 80, 81 and 83.
So I think that is likely to be Thomas's father in the valuation as he died in 1871.
There is a history of the Brown families in Ballymulligan and nearby townlands; have not yet established this line's connection to the other families.
