Biography
This profile is part of the Brown Name Study.
John Wesley Brown was born about January 20, 1861 in Renfrew, Canada West. He was the son of Miles Brown (1826-1904), and Lois Johnston (1828-1879). He may have had nine siblings.
In 1871, Westley Brown (age 9) was living with his father Miles (age 46), mother Lois (age 44), and six siblings in Ross, Renfrew, Ontario. [1]
John Wesley Brown (age 25, bachelor, farmer), son of Miles Brown & Louis Johnston, married Charlotte Edmonds' (age 19, spinster) on 17 April 1889 in Mattawa, Nipissing, Ontario, Canada. Charlotte was the daughter of William Edmonds and Huldy Humphreys. They stated on the license that they were both born in Ross and were of Methodist faith. John was residing in Bonfield, while Charlotte was residing in Calvin. Witnesses were: Alex Church of Bonfield, Ont. and Luey Smith of Portage du Pont? Quebec. They were married by Rev. Harris by license.[2] Their children were:

Judging by the children's birth locations they moved west to Manitoba, Canada sometime between 1898 and 1901.
In the 1906 census John W Brown (age 41) was living with his wife Charlott (age 36), and six children, in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada.[3]
In 1911, John Brown, was living with his wife Charlott (age 41), and five children in Dauphin Sub-Districts 16-76, Manitoba, Canada. They also had a lodger: Harry Sutherland (age 22).[4]
In 1916, J W Brown (age 51) was living with his wife Charlotte (age 46), and seven children in Manitoba. [5]
In 1926, John Brown (age 56), was living with his wife Charlotte (age 54), and four children in Port Nelson, Manitoba, Canada. [6]
John died about February 4, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, aged about 79. John was mentioned on a memorial in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, Greater Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with a death date of 4 February 1940.[7]
