Mary Alice was born in 1879. She was the daughter of Francis Brown and Catherine McKenna [1].
Mary Alice was living with the Jesson family at the time of the 1891 census [2]. After this I found no trace of Mary Alice despite extensive searching and it puzzled me that although my mother knew about Francis Brown ("uncle Frank") she had never heard of Mary Alice.
Searches of ScotlandsPeople for possible marriages and deaths were confounded by the common name of Mary Brown. Perhaps the only good outcome of the pandemic in 2020 was additional research time and I finally solved the puzzle.
Mary Alice married Robert Stewart on 1899 [3]. It had been so difficult to track down as the marriage was registered as just Mary Brown. The digital certificate confirms her parents as Francis Brown and Catherine McKenna Jesson. The marriage took place on 23 June and just 6 months later Mary Alice died. The death certificate says "Ulcerative Vaginitism, Premature labour, Acute Endometritis, septic 8 days" [4].
Catherine, who was present at her daughter's death, registered the event.
