Susan was born to William Brown and Caroline (Horner) Brown in 1849[1] She married Adam Hershey on 2 Dec 1869 in Darke, Ohio.[2][3] They had a family:[4]In the 1900 Census, she said that she was the mother of seven children, all living.[5]

After the children were grown, they stayed in the same community.[6][7]
Her husband died of some sort of infection (septicemia) at 3:45 in the afternoon of 24 Jan 1927. She died of cachexia, which is caused by losing too much weight through cancer or some other wasting sickness, four hours later at 7:45 p.m.[8][9]
