George was born on 15 November 1815 in New York, New York, USA. He was the son of Jeremiah Bakeman Bateman Brown. In 1831 George (age about 15) and his family relocated to Ohio. When George was 20 he married Mary Ann (Shafer) Brown (1808-1896) on 31 March 1836 in Guernsey County, Ohio, USA.[1]

George enlisted as a private in Company B, 3rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, on 13 Jun 1861 for the Civil War, and was discharged on 16 August 1862. [4]

On 27 Oct. 1871, George appeared before a clerk of the Court of Common Pleas to testify on behalf of his mother-in-law's pension application for her late husband, Conrad Shafer's War of 1812 service. George testified that he was living in Caldwell, Ohio. [6]

George filed for a pension based on his Civil War service on 9 February 1891.

George died at the age of 79 on 21 November 1894 in Summerfield, Noble, Ohio, USA.[4] He was buried in Olive Cemetery in Caldwell, Noble County, Ohio.[9]
