Biography

I've been working on genealogy for over 20 years, continuing the work of my paternal Aunt Mary Brown Burke Rothengass on the Brown and Brayton lines; as well as pursuing all the other many branches both paternal and maternal.

Surnames of my first few ancestral generations: Paternal- BROWN, BRAYTON, MOBLEY, BELL, CREWS, MOORE, COLEMAN, GREEN Maternal- TURNEY, WALTER, MYERS, LITTLE, JAM*SON, MARTIN, HALDEMAN, VAN_SICKLE The lineage of Glen Edgar DUDLEY is taken from the loving research he accomplished prior to his untimely death.

My full family tree is at ancestry.com but set to Private/Searchable. Glad to share the information, images, etc. if you ask. One of my biggest joys in doing this work is finding new cousins, however distant. I also enjoy assisting 'non-rellies' with their research. Collaborating with others is key to in-depth research. So please contact me if we're related, might be related, or if I can assist.

DNA

My mitochondrial and autosomal DNA has been tested and both of my brothers have had their yDNA tested at the 111 SNP marker level. The results are at FTDNA and GedMatch, and my aDNA is also at Ancestry.com. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to use the DNA Confirmation Aid. So although many of our ancestors that could be marked DNA confirmed, they are not.

Sources

If sources aren't entered, please contact me. I'm a stickler for documentation. Also am glad to share my private ancestry.com tree site. Just ask for an invitation.

Hello Beth,

Once again it is time for our annual Ireland Project check-in.

1. Would you like to continue as a member of the project? 2. Do you have any suggestions for project priorities in the next year? 3. Do you have any interest in taking a more active role in the project and, if so, what might you be interested in doing?

A response to the check-in is one of the project’s few requirements for all members. Please either post a reply below or send me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you, we’ll assume your interests have changed and you no longer have time to participate in the project.

Thank you for all of your contributions to WikiTree and to the Ireland Project.

Jen, Ireland Project co-leader

•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!

Hi Beth,

It is once again time for our annual Ireland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

  1. If you would like to continue as an Ireland Project member. If your answer is yes, please tell us if you are happy with your current team, or if you would prefer to join a different one. If you are currently participating in more than one team we would appreciate you ranking them in their order of importance to you, from highest priority to lowest. This information will be helpful as we consider possible future changes to our team structure.
  2. In the past, the project has had a very minimal membership requirement (one contribution per year) for badged members to meet. Do you believe this is adequate, or should this requirement be increased? What do you believe would be a reasonable commitment to expect from all project members?
  3. How active have you been in the Ireland Project over the past year? Please choose one of the following options: a) I normally spend 1-5 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. b) I normally spend 6-10 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. c) I spend over 10 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. d) I am not able to contribute every month but have spent approximately ________ hours during the past year improving Irish profiles.
  4. Please provide feedback on any things you’d like to see the project do more of in the future.

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you no longer are able to participate in the Ireland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

Many thanks for all that so many of you have contributed to the project in the past year, and very special thanks to those who answered the project’s call and gave generously of their time to be part of Team Seanchaithe during the most recent connect-a-thon. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the DNA Confirmation help page. After that, try out the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker app, it can simplify the job.

Hi Beth!

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hi Amy, thanks for checking in and for all that you and the project leaders do! I don't recall signing up for a team but may do so in the future. A newsletter would be nice to see if there's news to share :D I don't see a need to publish one on a set schedule. I was 'grandfathered' into the project before the Tartan Trail and do not wish to travel it at this time. I don't have any questions or suggestions to add. I found the team and members most helpful during my active search into one branch of my Scottish tree for which I'm very grateful. I've several more branches to explore so as time progresses I may add more to these thoughts. Again, thank you for you! slainte'

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

Hi

My name is Sarah and I’m the new Project Leader for The Native Americans Project. This is your project check-in letter. I would love to hear back from you about your current Native American research interests and project related activity.

Thank you,

Sarah Mason, NA Project Leader

posted by Sarah Mason
Hi Sarah, thanks for taking on this role! I'm not currently researching my NA roots, which are Cherokee from upstate-SC in the 1700s and part of the migration to northern AL. In about 1784 Pendleton District, SC a Cherokee woman, possibly with family name of Crow married John Bell.

The Bell family most likely attended Oolenoy Baptist Church. Chief Woolenoy, a Cherokee leader who resided in the area, is the possible ancestor of John N. Bell's mother, Miss Crow. A Chief, named by observer as King Crow, were living in this area in 1725. The Crow families were neighbors of the Bell families in 1790, 1800, and 1810 Pendleton District, South Carolina. Unfortunately, most of the earliest church records were destroyed in a house fire. Also, at this point in time, the Cherokee of the Lower Towns [sic Pendleton] did not have written records, so it is unlikely confirmation will be discovered. They were the parents of John N. Bell who moved onto Cherokee County, AL. DNA suggests that she was the mother of John N. Bell. Depending upon which calculator/website one uses, I have .2% to .5% autosomal DNA.

If anyone has the same connection, I'd be glad to 'take a break' from my current focus to collaborate with them.

Wishing you great success!

Unfortunately, no sources are given --Thanks, I'll add that link to my research notes! One of the 3 Frost children listed there, Edward Vandiver, Johnson, or Goram/Gorham MAY have been the father of Nancy Bell's husband, Jedediah.

Its also possible that JOSEPH Frost who married Sarah's sister, Tabitha Vandiver, may have been his grandparents.

Jedediah, Joseph and my direct Josiah MAY have been siblings.

Hi Beth!,

Thanks for the quick work on the Frost/Bell merges! I see you are related on the Bell side. I recently received a DNA match on FTDNA from a descendant of the 8th child of Jedediah & Nancy, Edwin Jefferson "Jeff" Frost (1855-1943). The descendant has a tree shown but there are some problems with it and I've been trying to figure out/untangle how he & I connect (I'm near positive it must be through this Frost line).

I don't need to be added as PM but if you don't mind, I'd like to add a temporary "Research Notes" heading to Jedediah Frost's profile page while I work at resolving the tangle--would that be okay with you?

"Adam was commissioned as Lt of Hempstead Militia by Gov. Nicholls on 22 April 1665.<ref>Ancestors & descendants of Sarah Eleanor Ladue by Grant Rideout, 1930; p 122</ref>"

Hi Beth,

The Ireland Project (previously the Irish Roots Project) has now changed its structure into Teams. We require everyone with the Ireland Badge to be a member of at least one Team or Sub-Team and our google group. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ireland for details. The Teams are :-

1. Categories Team
2. Counties Team
3. Managed Profiles Team
4. Membership Team
5. Profile Improvement Team
6. Topics Team
7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know if you’d like to stay on in the new project and which team(s) you’d like to join. Please also let me know your e-mail address so that I can get you added to the project’s Google Group or confirm you are already a member of the google group.

Many thanks,

Maria
