Benjamin Brown was the son of Joseph Brown and Susanna Cole. He was born about 1751, his birthplace unknown. Joseph and Susanna Brown moved from Eastham, Massachusetts to Gorham, Maine about 1751 and Benjamin likely was born enroute.

Benjamin married Sarah Phinney about 1771/2 using the birthdate of their first born, Edmund.
