Richard married Eliza Smytheram at Stoke St. Gregory on 12fth August 1852. The Parish Register reads: "1852. Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of Stoke St. Gregory in the County of Somerset / No. 111 / August 12th 1852 / Ric'd Brown, of full age, Bachelor, Baker, Stoke St. Gregory, William Brown, Land Agent / Eliza Smytheram, Minor, Spinster, Stoke St. Gregory, Thomas Smytheram, Labourer." Witnesses: Daniel Hinchester and Samuel Richards.
