Samuel Brown was a farmer. His middle initial is either H. or G. His father was born in South Carolina. His mother was born Tennessee.
The 1870 Census shows that Samuel G. Brown and several of his children were born in Kentucky, but by 1880 (when they were in Illinois) he decided that they all had been born in Illinois. Was Samuel on the run from the law? Or did he just feel that Illinois was a better state than Kentucky?
One of Samuel Brown's sons, George Hollis Brown, indicated that his father (Samuel) had been born in Kentucky.
In the 1900 Census, Samuel cites his mother's birth place as being Tennessee and his father's birthplace as being South Carolina.
Samuel shows up in the 1900 U.S. Census but does not appear in the 1910 Census, so one assumes he died in the interim.
