Research Notes

I found the Find A Grave record for David Brown. The death date and place match, and it confirms he was born in North Carolina. The problem is that now he is not old enough to be the father of Jane Brown Poteet. It is possible that the birth and death dates for two different David Browns were combined. The Elisabeth listed as one of his wives was Elizabeth Betsy Johnson Brown, not Sarah Elizabeth Roark Brown. More research needs to be done to confirm.

There were at least two David Browns uncovered in my search. It looks as if the David Brown who married Sarah Elisabeth Roark did not have a daughter named Jane. His birth and death dates are different from those in this record.

I removed him as the father of Jane Brown Poteet. Despite other differences, he was born in 1781 and Jane Brown Poteet was born in either 1778 or 1890, so he could not have been her father. David Brown of this profile appears on her marriage record, but he could not have been her father. He may have been an uncle or a cousin.
