Biography

Jane was named for her grandmother in Scotland, Jane (Grey) Thomson who had planned with her family to join her husband James in Australia, but had died before being able to do so.

Jane's mother, Johanna Thomson emigrated with her sister Elizabeth and brothers William and Robert Thomson, and had married David Brown who kept a Livery Stable,in Kent Street, Sydney. A son David was born in 1854 to Johanna and David, then their daughter Jane, in 1858. Baby Jane died that same year, and her father David Brown a year later, in 1859.
