Victor was born in 1888. He is the son of Ambrose Brown and Margaret Brooks.
In WWI he enlisted in the AIF on 26 Oct 1915 as a Private (No 21316). At time of enlistment he was 5ft 5& 1/2 in tall with fair complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair. He embarked from Australia on 11 May 1916 and arrived at Devonport, ENG on 10 Jul 1916. He was promoted to Corporal on 10 Nov 1916 and sent to France with the 9th Field Artillery Brigade on 29 Dec 1916. By 9 Feb 1917 he was on strength with 12th Army Field Artillery Brigade. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the Field on 22 Jun 1917. It appears he was retrospectively promoted to Sergeant with effect 2 Jun 1917.
He was transferred to England on 15 Mar 1918 as part of the permanent cadre of No 4 Depot. He was again sent to France on 4 Oct 1918 and returned from there to Southampton on 19 Apr 1919. He departed England on 8 May 1919 on the "Devanah" and was discharged on 18 Aug 1919. It appears he spent significant time during the War in hospital for various illnesses including influenza, bronchitis and VD.[1]
In late 1920 he sold up his farm at Stott's Creek in order to move to a property in QLD.[2]
In WWII he enlisted in the AMF on 13 Apr 1942 at Mackay, QLD as Q215047 and served as a Lieutenant with 15 Bn Volunteer Defence Corps (QLD). He was discharged on 21 Oct 1945. [3]
