Biography

It is probable Henry Brown was born in Chatham, Kent, England about 1793.

He married Sarah Webb on 12 May 1812 in Boxley, Kent, England.[1]

Children: William, Elizabeth, Sarah (married Thomas Gibbs), Henry, Frances Harriett (married Walter Newport), Harriett (married George Blick), Elizabeth (married Richard Hylands), Mary Ann, Thomas Gilbert.

In 1841 Henry and his family were living in Maidstone, Kent, England on Wheeler Street. He emigrated with his family to New Zealand that year, arriving in Nelson, New Zealand on the ship "Bolton" with his wife, Frances (aged 17) , Harriett (aged 15), Elizabeth (aged 9), and Thomas (aged 7). They left Gravesend on 29 October 1841 and arrived in Nelson on 15 March 1842.[2]

Henry was a farmer at Waimea East, Nelson, New Zealand.[3]

Henry died in Richmond, Nelson, New Zealand on 17 March 1864 and was buried in the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Tasman District, Tasman, New Zealand.[4][5]

He signed his will with his mark indicating that he may have been illiterate.
