President of Brown Bros. Ltd., wholesale and manufacturing stationers, dealers in paper, office supplies, prints and bookbinders' material, based in Toronto, Ontario. Brown Bros. was originally formed by RIchard's father, and renamed when taken over by three of his sons: Thomas, John, and Richard.
From 1856 to 1900 Brown Bros. was located on King Street. In 1900 the firm moved into a new five-story building on Wellington, which was completely destroyed in the 1904 Toronto fire. The building shown here was built in its place.
Richard's parents were Thomas Brown (1789-?) and Ann Spoor (1802-?), both born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Their children were:
