James was born about 1685 in Scotland but was reared in the Province of Ulster, Ireland. He married there and emigrated to America in 1720 locating on the Swatara creek, Lancaster Co. (now Dauphin) PA. James and his wife had 6 children. He was the son of John Brown and Isabella Wier. He passed away about 1750.
