Mrs. Mary Evans Brown, 76, widow of Robert H. Brown, died Thursday evening at the home of their son, George H. Brown, Cortland. Mrs. Brown had been ill with anemia for about three months, having been in a serious condition since Sunday. Mary Elizabeth Evans was born in Norwich, December 20, 1862, the daughter of Jerome and Mary Elizabeth Blossom Evans. She was married about 50 years ago at North Pharsalia to Robert H. Brown, who died about 17 years ago. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Cortland. Mrs. Brown leaves two sons, Geo. H. and Wilson J. of Cortland; one daughter, Mrs. Sarah E. Smith of Newburgh; one grandson, Leslie Smith of Elmira; two grand-daughters, Mrs. Ida Phoenix of Solon and Miss Jaquelin Brown of Cortland; one great grandson, Donald Phoenix of Newburgh, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah A. Howard of North Pharsalia. Funeral services were held at 12 Monday noon at the late home in Cortland and at 2 in the afternoon in the Free Methodist Church in North Pharsalia. Rev. H.W. Schwab, pastor of the Cortland Free Methodist church officiated. Burial was made in Wayside Rest, Pharsalia.
