Been doing genealogy for my family off and on (mostly off!) for quite a number of years. I wish I had started sooner when my grandparents were alive. I'm sure they could have told some stories!

I never knew about my birth mother until I was 15. So, all the information that I had on my family for my 7th grade genealogy project (do they still do that in school?) was incorrect. It wasn't until an answer to a bulletin board question about her grandfather (some 10 years ago) from her last husband, did I get a lot of information about my maternal side of the family. Never got to know her, her having died before her last husband had contacted me. Wish I could turn back the hands of the clock!

The Brown side is pretty secretive. I have found some cousins and some pretty interesting stories! Still have a few brick walls that need to come down.

If I were asked what advice I would give budding genealogists, it would be three things: DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION! I spent 1 1/2 years on the wrong Brown family because I didn't get adequate documentation before I took a leap over the missing 1890 US Census!

Looking for Brown, Semnacher, Westcott, McClary, Edick, York, Nowland

Thanks for being a member of the Mid-Atlantic Team for the January Connectathon. It was a fun and productive weekend. We added 2,936 profiles to Wikitree, almost a thousand more than last July’s Connectathon.

In Mindy’s wrap up message, she mentions how to delete from your watchlist profiles you do not want to continue to manage. Can I make a suggestion, before you do this, can you check your suggestion list and see if there are any typos that need to be corrected. We don’t want to add to the data doctors’ work.

See you next thon Mickey

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the United States Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

It's George and Eleanor/Elnora/Nora (have seen all these variations) that I'm uncertain about. Thought I had the right George and he turned out to be in Oneonta with a different family. Now another census record is leading me back to Albert and Laura as his parents, same as the other George.

My Westcott ancestors lived in Syracuse and Parish. I just started trying to find out more about them and have spent a while tracking down what turned out to be not the right family. Curious to find out if/how we're connected.

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

You've been a WikiTree member for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.

You are probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. Since collaboration isn't always easy, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

I'm always happy to answer questions!

P.S. Looks like you already have this one nailed!
