Biography

Benjamin was born about 1868 in Randolph County, Alabama. His parents were Abner J. Brown and Sara Jane Zeigler. He was married to Laura Ada Sherrer about 1890. He was employed as a railroad engineer. His wife died in December of 1893. Benjamin was found dead on the railroad tracks near West Point, Georgia in 1906. His tragic death was considered to have been an accident but others in the family believed that he had met his fate from foul play.

"The Roanoke Leader" Wednesday, October 10, 1906 "Ben C. Brown, a former citizen of this county, and a son of Mr. Ab Brown, was run over and instantly killed by a train in West Point about 9 o'clock last Sunday night. How he came to meet his death is unknown. He was so badly mangled that he remains were recognized only by chance. The remains were shipped to Roanoke on Tuesday morning where they were met by friends and members of the family. An examination of the body was then made and the only mark of identification was a scar on one thumb. The party proceeded to Broughton Ridge where the interment was made."

Family

Ben and Ada were married about 1890. They had a son, Martin Luther Brown b. 1891
