Donavon Brown, 62, 1606 Monte Drive, Mandan, died Sept. 2, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Moose ritual will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight, and a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. tonight, also at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday, for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Donavon Brown was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Werner, the son of Clarence W. and Viola (Braun) Brown. He was raised and educated in Werner, Pick City, Riverdale and Hazen, and received his GED in 1993. On July 21, 1955, he married Marlene Stadick in Underwood.
Donavon was a charter member of the Ironworkers Local No. 793 and was superintendent of B&W Construction and Catalytic Construction. He received his 45 year pin this year from the Ironworkers.
He was a lifetime member of the Moose and member of the Elks and Eagles Club.
He is survived by his spouse, Marlene; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Roberta, Mandan, and D.J. and Joette, Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Dale T. Berger, Mandan, Candace and Tom Johnson, Bismarck, RaeAnn and Tracy Haider, Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Viola Brown, Mandan; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clarence Jr. and Bernie, Beulah, and William, Jamestown; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Walt Berg, Crystal River, Fla., Betty Marie Brown, Bismarck, and Maureen and Delano Oster, Faribault, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Brown.
Donavon will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He will be remembered as the tough guy with a big heart, who loved to joke with his friends and tell them of the admiration and love he had for his family. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
