Mathew Brown was a farmer in Carroll Co., IN. He was Carroll County Commissioner of the third district for three years; from Sept. 1847 to Sept. 1850. He died in Carroll Co. as did both wives. Mathew and Mary Hanna Brown settled in Carroll Co., IN in 1832, migrating from Union County IN. [The first settlers of Carroll Co were Henry Robinson and his son Abner in the winter of 1824-25. He was married two times and outlived both wives.] Mathew came to Franklin County, IN and in 1824 bought a farm in Franklin Co. from the state of Indiana (government land) for $200. The location of the farm was East half of the North East quarter of section 32 in Twp section of range three in the district of Land sold at Brookville, Franklin Co., in the State of Indiana. He later sold this property and moved to Tippecanoe Co., IN. Then on Mar 7, 1833, he bought 80 acres of land in Deer Creek Twp, Carroll Co. of William Davis and wife Mahala for $400. The location of this farm is west one half of South East quarter of section 12 in Twp 24 North of Range two West. Mathew will was found in the Carroll Co. Clerk’s office. His daughter, Mary Ann Clymer was the only person mentioned in the will. He willed her the kitchen furniture and $200. He left an equal share of the remaining estate to the other heirs. He is buried in Bringhurst, Indiana.
