Biography

Mary Brown, her parents and siblings, are identified in the obituaries of her mother Martha Ann Cook, her father [Brown-82608|William Brown]], and her sister Elizabeth Brown.

According to the 1881 Census of Canada,[1] Mary Jane Brown was born in 1860 and in 1881 was living with her family in Thorah, Ontario.

In 1892, three of the Brown sisters appear to be living together in Buffalo and working as dress makers.[2]

In her hospital admission record,[3] Elizabeth Brown reports that she was trained as a dress maker. It is therefore likely that these Browns are Elizabeth and her sisters. However, liberties appear to have been taken with age and place of birth.
