David Brown one the oldest known entrepreneurs of Randolph County died August 7,1893. Mr Brown was born near Sparta, Illinois on July 6, 1828. February 14, 1850 he married Catherine McCallaster . They lived near the McCallaster farm in Pinckneyville, Illinois. Catherine and their son Sydney died in November 1851. He married Elizabeth Harmon 12/15/1853. They had 13 children. 10 boys and 3 girls.
Mr Brown moved to Short’s Prairie (later known Percy, Illinois). He bought Daniel Malone’s farm and continued as a successful farmer. In 1871, when the Narrow Gaige Railroad was built he engaged in the grain business along with his farming and was very successful. In 1874 he built a two-story brick home in Percy. The house was the first of its kind in Percy, Illinois.
He is buried in Short Cemetery Percy, Illinois.
