Maria Brown was born to Thomas Brown, a cabinet maker and Sarah Evans in the City of Pembroke, Wales about 1823.[1][2][3][4] [Note: some documents use the spelling 'Browne', others 'Brown'.]
Migration
Maria migrated to Australia, apparently alone, as an assisted migrant in 1853.[5][4]
Marriage
Maria married Edward Ashton in 1862 in St Kilda, Melbourne, Colony of Victoria (now State of Victoria, Australia).[6]
The couple moved to Ballarat, where Edward established a thriving business as a butcher.
Children
Edward and Maria had a daughter, Maria, born in 1864 in Ballarat, Colony of Victoria.[7]
Maria Ashton died 2 Nov 1876 at 47 Creswick Rd Ballarat, Colony of Victoria at the age of 54[3][1][13][14][15][16][17][4][Note: Maria died intestate, with no living relatives except her husband, leaving an estate valued at £150. Her husband was granted probate and administered her estate.] Cause of death: 'Chronic disease of the liver ending in gangrene [of] 3 to 4 years [duration]'[18]
Maria was interred at Ballarat New Cemetery 4 Nov 1876, location Private D, Section 11, Grave 09.[19][20][21]
