Biography
There were two children in this family named Mary. This one, the first, died as a young child just over two years of age.[1] The practice of naming a child after a previously deceased one was relatively common. "Up until this century, parents could usually count on one third of their children not surviving. If a child died, the name was often used again. If a baby died, the next child of the same sex would often be given the same name."[2]
