Biography

Jane was born about 1655.

William and Mary (Browne) Brown's children were:

  1. Jane Browne (m. 1st., Robert Spencer and 2nd., Thomas Jordan) 1657–1685
  2. William Browne, Jr. (m. Jane Meriwether) 1671 – unknown

From Boddie "Southside Virginia Families" Vol 1:170. Thomas Jordan had previously married about 1679 Mrs Jane Browne Spencer, widow of Capt Robert Spencer, and oldest child of Col Wm Browne. They had Jane Jordan and Mary Jordan who married Francis Sowerby (V.H.G. -337). Thomas Jordan died in 1685. His administrators were James Jordan and Col Wm Browne. Lucy (Corker) Jordan married secondly Wm Rose Jr. (V.H.G. 307).[1]

Research Notes

Robert Spencer and Robert Spencer have been detached from this profile as it seems impossible to determine which Robert Spencer she married.

Browne-3835 and Browne-2846 do not represent the same person because: The husbands attached are not the same person. The profiles should not be merged until the husband (and offspring) issues are resolved. There is a g2g discussion covering most of the myriad issues within the Jordan family.

I'm working on sorting that out right now. Are you good with going with Boddie's conclusions?

I believe so but it has been a long time since I looked at this. Boddie does make errors in the early Jordan and Corker families but I think most of those I have noted in profiles. I believe the correct Thomas Jordan is Jordan-267. However, there remain unresolved timeline issues where the Jordan and Corker families intermarry. Taken separately everything appears correct and documented. But, at the point of intermarriage there appears to be 15-20 year offset in what one would expect to find for dates--almost as if a generation is missing (but I've not found that to be the case). Most of the extraneous profiles and dupes have been dealt with in order to get this down to the narrowest set of profiles so Southern Colonies group can take a stab at rectifying the date discrepancies.

Browne-3835 and Browne-2846 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, parents and spouse

Browne-3835 and Browne-2846 do not represent the same person because: The husbands are not the same person or have different parentage attached. The merge is rejected until such time as those issues are first resolved.
