I blocked all wikitree email because there is so much email from them that it fills my inbox and I am unable to receive any messages from anyone at that point.

I would like to unsubcribe from all the wikitree junk mail, but I dont know how to do that.

Hello Wendy, thank you for your interest in John Lewis Jr's profile. That profile is PPP or Project Protected, relationships can only be added or removed from the profile of John Lewis Jr by the US Southern Colonies Project. I noticed that you have been posting on the profiles of the children that you want to be detached from his profile. The managers of those profiles are not able to detach them. If you have any sources to show they should be removed from John Lewis Jr's profile that would be great and you can post them on his profile. Thanks, Laura

the reason they should be removed is that there is no documentation to support any relationship to John lewis. they should only be listed as children when there is documentation that proves the relationship. Otherwise, it is speculation . did you notice that the father listed for that profile lists 3 different john lewis's as sons? that is the kind of thing that happens when people are connected without actual documentation. When there is no documentation its better to leave the parents unknown than to attach them to parents where there is no documentation.
posted by Wendy Browne
I appreciate your reasoning. It is not uncommon to have a hard time locating documentation during that time period, especially for women and children. The profile explains that conflation happened during previous merges. The reason that the profile is now Project Managed and is PPP is to avoid any further conflation. The project will research the profile as best it can and make any corrections, or add research notes to explain any continuing issues. It is also not unrealistic for someone to have three sons with the same name, especially it seems if the name is John. I have this problem in my own ancestry where a father named John then named three of his sons John. There is documentation in my line so it is proven.
posted by Laura DeSpain
2 of the 3 sons named John,in the bio sections, have the same wife, its a duplicate profile. can you merge them?
posted by Wendy Browne
hi Laura,

i have no sources to disprove that these are not his children because there are no valid sources to prove that they WERE his children, Lack of proof does not constitute a relationship .if there are no valid sources that prove they were his children, then they should not be listed as such. The listed children have the very common surname of lewis. That does not prove they were his children, . Can you share your perspective with me on why they are listed as his children? thank you

Hi Wendy,

I sent you a check-in message a week -10 days ago about the US Southern Colonies Project to ask you about your continued involvement but have not yet heard back from you. Do you still want to be in the project?

If I don’t hear from you by the same time next week I’ll assume that you’ve moved on to other things but you’re most welcome to re-join the project at any time.

Hoping to hear from you,

Best wishes,

Mary, Membership Coordinator, US Southern Colonies Project

Thank you for replying to the check-in. People get busy with other interests or projects. Your project badge will be removed by the leader.

However, if you’d like to rejoin at any stage you would be most welcome to do so by answering the G2G sign-up post here.

Many thanks,

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Wendy,

Thank you for merging the profiles and finding that lost Lucy! I was able to remove you from the profile as a manager. Caroline

I am looking to expand my Jones family links. So far, I do not see many children of Hardin Irvan Jones except Lena Clare (Jones) Strickland..

I do not want to add any duplicate children. Do you know if Hardin Ida Jones and other siblings have Wiki profiles? I want to avoid merging duplicates because the match process for adding new people has not worked well for me as it tells me after i have added someone and then want to add relatives.

posted by Jim Ward
hi,

I added Hardin Irvin jones , someone else added lena as daughter, i did not add any other children, i dont know if there are profiles for them on wikitree, i dont want my line on wikitree, you will have you would need to check to see if there are already profiles for the other children, wikitree is dfferent as you can not delete people, you can only merge with the permission of the person who manages the other profile. feel free to add any children that do not allready have profiles, if they have profiles all ready and do not show any father, you can add hardin's profile to them as father, if they do show a father then you have yto propose a merge with permission of the profile manager. but please do not add my line in ok? people who have profiles for people get VERY touchy about merges here, also here, they want everything sourced.

hello, i am fairly new to wiki and have not picked up on all of it yet, I am from the Forbes Clan and have been entering in my Forbes ancestors and some of their spouses and spouses families.

the delema I see is as these families expand, the people are covered by other projects so I dont know exactly what project I should be in so far i have listed spouses and spouses family members that fall under the new Netherlands project, some spouses families are from the Scottish Stirling families and I have entered some of the Stirlings from the Scottish project, ,some of the Stirling ancestors are going to be royals and they are covered by yet another project. euroristracrats or something like that. So i would like to stay involved with the Scottish project but not exclusively. i don't have the wiki tree experience to have the responsibly of leading anything , I am from Ancestry for the last ten years so the interface here is way different. I don't copy trees on ancestry, I just use the databases there. I am just a little worker ant, that can take small assignments that are not time sensitive.I have the most interest in researching people that are related to me directly or through marriage. Researching unrelated people doesn't hold my interest very long. Once in a while if I think see something that looks familiar, I will go back a few generations just out of curiosity. That said I am still learning the interface of wiki tree and there are things that i am not familiar with yet. kind regards wendy

Dear Wendy,

You can be in any project you want and you don't have to join a project to research something. You can even ask a project if they can help you with something without actually joining the project. The Scotland project has teams covering your clans of interest, but also Nobility. I will go ahead and put you on the Clan Forbes team and if you would like to add any other teams, just let me know.

Cheers,

Sarah

Hi Wendy! I see that you've posted the Magna Carta Project Affiliate sticker to your profile. That's a different membership level than a badged member. Badged members should add Category:Magna Carta Project to their profile, not the Affiliate sticker. Unless they want to switch membership - should I assume that's what you'd like to do? Switch from being a badged member to Affiliate? Give me a holler if you have questions.

Cheers, Liz

hi, i dont know if I put that sticker on or if someone else did, i am working with Michael on a project about George Reade that is not yet public. I am using the Magna Carta ancesrty volumes to source all of George reade's ancestors, this will help may of the magna carta lines you already have in your project as far as sheding light on possible unnoticed relationships , would that cause the sticker to change? I dont know the difference between badged member and affiliate member. I just know I want to stay involved with the project and because George Reade is my ancestor, I want to contribute information about his ancestors. what ever sticker will give me access to do this is what I would like to have. sorry /I have not learned about the stickers and what they mean yet. is there a wiki pages that can bring me up to speed on this? thank you

wendy

posted by Wendy Browne
Hi! Only you or someone on your trusted list can edit your profile, and editing your profile is the only way to add a sticker to it. Badged members have participation requirements to meet; affiliate members don't. Both are encouraged to join the Google Group - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/wikitreemagnacarta (when you send a request to join, include your WikiTree ID so that we know who it is).

The Magna Carta Project does not restrict who can edit profiles that it manages, only that normal WikiTree collaboration practices are followed (for example, major changes, such as changing relationships, should be discussed before execution).

Cheers, Liz

Butch - Pre-1700 Greeter

posted by Butch Smith
hmm. maybe you would. Her birth year (both profiles) is given as 1700, which is not, technically, pre-1700.

Still, before they're merged, the daughters attached to them need resolution. (I think it may have been me who set them as rejected, but that was after detaching the one from being Charles Lewis's wife and her daughter from being his daughter... those connections have been made again, so they need to be revisited. I could not find any primary proof at the time to help find a resolution to the profile. If you can post such info to the profiles involved, that'd be great!)

posted by Liz (Noland) Shifflett
Hi again Wendy. You wouldn't be able to work with Mary (Howell) Lewis's profile anyway, as it is pre-1700. However, there is a bit of a mess there. Charles Lewis currently has two profiles for daughters named Mary attached, who are different people. That needs to be resolved. Do you have links to sources that could help? It appears from the text on Lewis-4625 that she is the correctly portrayed daughter of Charles and Mary (Howell) Lewis. But before merging the two Mary Howells, we need to figure out who the other one's daughter Mary (Lewis-14575) is.
