As an adult, Frances became a poet and novelist. She is perhaps best remembered for her collection of short stories for children, Granny's Wonderful Chair.
By 1847 she had moved to Edinburgh and then in 1852 to St John's Grove, Richmond, London. dying of disease ofthe heart at Rosedale Terrace, Notting Hill [2]
Frances passed away in 1879.[1] She is buried in London.[3] She never married and has no known children; her will designated her lifelong friend and companion, Emma Hickman, as beneficiary.[4] In 2016, Frances was memorialized in Stranorlar with a statue, in which she is holding a copy of Granny's Wonderful Chair.[5]
