Henry Browne was a Virginia colonist.

Parentage

Matthew Browne and Jane Vincent did not have a son named Henry. Thomas is not the same person as Henry, therefore the parents are being detached.

Jamestown Society

Henry Browne died 1661/2, Surry Co.: 1634-1661 (Councillor).[1]

Colonel Henry Browne of "Four Mile Tree" was born in England about 1600 and died in Surry County, Virginia in 1661/2.[2]

Henry Browne, of James City, was first appointed a member of the Virginia Council in 1634, the year of his arrival in the colony, and served until the surrender of the colony to the parliamentary forces in 1652.[3][4] He was restored to the Council in 1660 following the Restoration and the reinstatement of Governor Berkeley.[2]

He married Ann (Fowler) Swann about 1634 in James City County.[2] They had two known children:

  1. Berkley Browne, c 1634, died w/o issue
  2. Mary Browne, c 1635, married William Browne[2]

Four Mile Tree

"Four Mile Tree" standing opposite Jamestown on the James River was the home of the Browne family[2] for nearly two centuries.[5] The founder of the Browne family of "Four Mile Tree" was Col. Henry Browne, said to have been of the Browne family of Hertford and Lancaster counties in England. He was a member of the Virginia Council from 1634 to 1652 and, after the Restoration,[6] in 1660 and 1661. He died before 20 October 1662 in Virginia.[7]

I would suggest that the Browns are the same stock as the Browns who are forbearers of the Mayweather's based on their warm friendship.

Browne-3757 and Browne-1477 appear to represent the same person because: Family members, locations and most dates are the same.
