Richard Browning of Coaley was the son and heir of John Browning and Margaret daughter of William Harding of Cam, yeoman. He married Elizabeth daughter of Edward Parsons of Leonard Stanley and had six children - John, Richard, Catherine, Jane and two other daughters.[1][2]
On 10 Jun 1558, Richard was given various bequests of livestock and moveable goods in the will of his father John Browning of Coaley, while his wife Margaret was the sole exor.[3]
Richard Brownynge was assessed for £20 in the Lay Subsidy of 1581, the highest assessment in Coaley. His assessment was the same in 1585 and 1592. His son, John Browninge, was assessed for £14 in 1595.[4]
Richard Browning died in 1595; he was bur. 10 Dec 1595 in Coaley parish church. His will was dated 1594 and was proved 7 Feb 1595/6.[5] It mentions his eldest son John, son Richard and daughters Katherine, Ann, Jane, Joan and Ursula.[5]
The will names his daughter Katherine Stephens and her children Edward, Timothy, Joan and Deborah Stephens,[5] who were the children of James Stephens of Eastington clothier d. 1591.[6]
