Who were The Parents?

Edward Franklin Browning shows Nicholas Browning, Jr, son of Nicholas Browning and Sarah Washburn, as born 1752 in Culpeper, Virginia.^[1]

A number of persons are shown as children of Nicholas Browning in various genealogies, but are not named in Nicholas Will. ^[2]

It is appears certain that Nicholas intended to name all his children then living at the time he wrote his will in 1786, whether they were to inherit or not. Therefore it must be concluded that any of these named below, who were living in 1786, are not his children, unless some other strong evidence exists.

1. Martha Browning was born in Virginia about 1745. She married Martin Davenport, Sr.; born Abt. 1739 in Hanover County, Virginia; died Abt. 1815 in Burke County, North Carolina. Martin Davenport received land grants 10 Dec 1778 Burke Co., North Carolina. He served in the Revolutionary War in 1778. He was in Wilkes County, North Carolina 9 Feb 1779. His estate was probated January 1823 in Burke Co., North Carolina. Martha Browning Davenport was widowed there. ^[3]See also Martha Jane Browning and Martha Browning.
2. Jonathan Browning, born September 16, 1750 in Culpeper County, Virginia; died May 18, 1834 in Fredricksburg, Maryland. He married (1) Margaret Lewis April 12, 1773 in Culpeper County, Virginia; born Abt. 1750. He married (2) Susannah Winteroth Abt. 1805; born Abt. 1770. ^[3]Note: This erroneous entry confuses Maryland and Virginia Brownings.
3. Nicholas Browning, Jr., born Abt. 1752 in Culpeper County, Virginia; died Abt. 1797 in South Carolina.
