Biography
John Brownson was born in Earls Colne, Essex, England.

John Brownson was baptized October 8, 1580 at St Andrews Earls Colne, Essex, England[1]
On January 30, 1603/4 he married Elizabeth Layre at St Andrews Earls Colne, Essex, England[2]
1611 Lands owned by his mother and father John and Joan called Chalkney Croft were divided in two in 1595. One parcel called The Fenne was to pass to John. Father and son came to court to seek admittance to their separate estates.[3]
1614 He was a sawyer to whom Richard Harlakenden, Lord of the Manor, granted to both him and his wife Elizabeth, a tenement called Cobbes with a curtilage and garden. Annual rent of 2d.[4]
1617 he was a beneficiary in the will of his Fathers sister-in-law Mary Berry
1622/3 His father John died, buried 4th Feb [5]
1623 an unsuccessful challenge was made on his right to the divided land in Chalkney, probably as a consequence of his fathers death.[6]
1630 he was admitted to a plot named Birchett, surrendered by Edward Cressener[7]
1633 Elizabeth his wife died in July. [8] There were no recorded children from this marriage,
1633 From the Priory Manor Court Book : Margaret Coleman was admitted by the surrender of John Brownson to a piece of land called Birchetts after the death of John her husband on condition that she marry him[9]
He married, secondly, Margaret Coleman, a widow, at Aldham, Essex on November 12, 1633. [10] (Note that this record refers to John Browne of Earls Colne)
He was buried 17 Oct 1638 in St Andrews Earls Colne, Essex[11]
His two children Margaret and Mary by his second marriage were his legal heirs. On Johns death their mother became their guardian.[12]
