Biography

Wilbert Grant Brubaker was born 3 October 1868 in Greenfield Township, Warren County, Iowa to Daniel and Sarah Isabelle Brubaker.[1][2][3] [4] Wilbert had a twin brother named Charles.[2]

The Brubakers are in Greenfield, Warren, Iowa in 1870.[5] Daniel was farming property worth $3000 with personal belongings worth $900. The household included Daniel and Sarah and their children Wilbert and Charles, one Sarah Miller age 8, and a farm laborer, Marion Serber.

In 1885, the Brubakers were living in Greenfield Township, Warren County, Iowa.[2] Daniel was the head of the household, which also included Sarah Isabelle, Wilbert, Charley, Eva, and Sarah's mother Catherine and brother Frank. Daniel and Frank were farming, Sarah was keeping house. Wilbert and Charley are noted as being twins.

Wilbert married Jennie Reeves December 31, 1890 in Indianola, Warren, Iowa.[1]

The Brubakers were living Norwalk, Iowa in 1900.[6] Wilbert was farming and the older children were in school.

The 1905 Iowa Census lists Wilbert in Jefferson Township, Warren County Iowa.[7] He was farming.

The Brubakers were living in Jefferson Township, Warren County, Iowa in 1910.[8] The household included Wilbert, Jennie, and their children Grace, Ray, Edith, Gladys, and Merle. Wilbert was farming.

In 1915, Wilbert and family were in Prole, (Jefferson Township), Iowa.[9] Wilbert was farming and had earned $900 the previous year in his endeavours. He had attended school 15 years and could read and write. He owned his farm.

In 1920, Wilbert, Jennie, and their two daughters, Gladys and Merle, were living in Indianola, Iowa at 308 S. E St.[10] Wilbert was working as teamster laborer. Jennie was listed as no occupation, but for whom, the entry is illegible. (Note there is a William Grant Brubaker with a son named Roy born in 1867 who can be easily confused with Wilburt Grant.)

In 1930, the Wilbert and Jennie were living at 3134 South Union in Des Moines, and were renting for $10 a month.[11] He was working as a laborer and Jennie was working as a pastry cook.

Wilbert worked at a saw mill in Des Moines for a time before he retired.[12]

Wilbert was living at 17 Park Avenue in Des Moines at the time of his death on April 6, 1951, and had been living in Des Moines for 35 years.[12] He had been ill for six months (cardio-renal syndrome?) and died at home of coronary thrombosis. He was buried in Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, Warren County, Iowa.[12][13][3]
