Biography

Nancy was born in 1853. She passed away in 1946 in her residence in Hazel Street in Chico, California.

“ Her father, John Bruce, was born in Alsace-Lorraine, France in 1828. He came to America with his family, settling in Kentucky. Two years later the family moved to Jo Daviess County, Illinois where they farmed. It was here in 1853 that Nancy Margaret was born. ----- In 1854 she was brought across the plains by her family in a covered wagon train and settled on a 160-acre homestead on Humboldt Road just three miles east of Chico. ----- In 1856 she returned to the East by ship around the Horn and returned in 1860 by wagon train again. In 1870 she was married to Aaron Geary Williams in Chico and the couple settled at 171 Hazel Street where they lived until their passing. -----Five children were born to Nancy and Aaron Williams, only one of whom survives, Marcus Geary Williams, of Chico. She also leaves a grandson, Charles Westbrook, of Chico; five great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. ” -Chico Enterprise
