Biography

Sarah (Bruce) Duke is a part of US Black heritage.

Sarah was born about 1837. She was the daughter of Jacob Bruce and Charity Unknown. She passed away in 1906.

Research Note

There are a couple of interesting records for a Simon Duke born 10 May 1867 to a Sarah Duke in West Virginia where the mother could be her, but there is insufficient information to determine for sure.^[1]

I was following the records for a Hannah Duke, from this census data: (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M8D4-9VN) I was trying to determine if she was the same person as Hannah Duke (Duke-5051)

So, I picked up on Lafayette Duke also listed on that census - to see if he was Hannah's son. I believe I found him later in life in Ohio, possibly married to this Sarah Bruce. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M8S6-N8V
