Biography

Russell was born 17 MAR 1813. All the census records but the 1850 list him as born in Virginia. The father of Russell Bruce was probably Vincent Bruce based solely on time and place. Vincent was among the early settlers of Gallia Co. Ohio and is the only Bruce I can find there in that time period. I have not found any source directly linking him. There is a James Bruce in the 1830 census age 50 to 60 but they have no children. Vincent has 2 male children age 15 to 20 years in the 1830 census. Any help would be appreciated.

Russell Bruce married Naomi or Naoma Lambert 1 MAY 1838 in Gallia Co. Ohio. They had at least four children.

The Bureau of Land Management lists Russell Bruce bought 40 acres of land at the Chillicothe Office of the BLM. Dated 10 APR 1843. His occupation was consistently listed as farmer and in Greenfield Twp, Gallia County Ohio in the census records.

Russell is mentioned in the Chancery Records of Gallia Co. Ohio dated 29 MAR 1851 (Samuel F. Gates VS William Bruce et. al. "Russell Bruce and his wife Naoma"

William Bruce of Tazwell Virginia has one eighth, Joshua Bruce of Missouri has one eighth. Sharing one eighth are Nancy Ann Humphreys wife of William, Martha and Thomas Waldren minors all of Jackson County. Nancy, Martha and Thomas are all children of Lydia H Bruce Waldren deceased. Dismissed.
