Charles was born in 1896. He is the son of Henry Bruce and Annie Pearson.
Private Charles John Bruce enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on the 10th of June 1916, though some records suggest this date should be the 16th of June 1916. His Next of Kin was listed as his father, Henry Sydney Bruce of Koorboona via Cairns, Queensland. Private Bruce was assigned to the 26th Battalion, 16th Reinforcements, and this unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A36 Boonah on the 21st of October 1916.
Private Bruce would continue to serve with the 26th Battalion until he was unfortunately Killed in Action on the 20th of September 1917 at the age of 20 years and 9 months. He has no known grave, but he is commemorated at the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium on Memorial (Panel 23).Have you taken a DNA test? If so, login to add it.
