When Gennie returned to Mississipi, he and Lucille enjoyed their life in Mississippi, but decided to venture out to California to join her older brother Albert Brumfield Jr. who was enjoying great employment opportunities in California. In 1948, they sold their house and headed to California. ONce they arrived in California, Lucill's brother, Albert insisted she and Gennie live with him in hos first property he had bought in California.
