Biography

Sébastien Brun was born about 1655 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Vincent Brun (abt. 1611–abt. 1686) and Renée Breau (abt. 1616–bef. 1678).[1]

In 1671, he was counted on the census in Port Royal, Acadie, aged 15, living with his parents.[2]

Sébastien (20) married Huguette Bourg (18) (born about 1657 in Port-Royal; daughter of Antoine Bourg and Antoinette Landry) in 1676 in Port Royal, Acadie. Their known children were:[1]

  1. Jeanne Brun (abt. 1676–aft. 1714) .
  2. Claude Brun (abt. 1678–abt. 1760) .
  3. Abraham Brun (abt. 1680–1713) .
  4. Vincent Brun (1681–1708) .
  5. Jean Baptiste Brun (abt. 1684–1751) .
  6. Antoine Brun (abt. 1685– ) .
  7. Marie Brun (abt. 1687–1758)

In 1678, he was counted on the census in Port-Royal with his wife and two children.[3]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Bastien [sic] Brun, aged 32, lived with his wife, Hugette [sic] Bourg, aged 28, and their six children: Jeanne, aged 9, Claude, aged 7, Abraham, aged 6, Vincent, aged 5, Jean [recte Jean Baptiste], aged 4, and Antoine, aged 1. They owned 1 gun, 12 cattle, 12 sheep and 10 hogs. No workable land was listed.[4]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Sebastien Brun, widower, aged 38, lived with his seven children: Jeanne, aged 16, Claude, aged 14, Abraham, aged 12, Vincent, aged 11, Jean Baptiste, aged 9, Anthoine [sic], aged 8, and Marie, aged 6. The family owned 1 gun and lived on 10 arpents of cultivable land with 12 cattle, 20 sheep, and 10 pigs.[5]

He was counted on the 1698 census of Port-Royal as Sebastien Brun, age 45 years [sic], with 60 fruit trees.[6]

He was counted again in 1700[7] and in 1701[8] and was listed each time as age 45.

Sébastien died on 15 August 1728 and was interred the same day at St Jean Baptiste, Annopolis Royal, Acadia. Witnesses were Antoine Brun and Claude Brun, his children.[9][10]
