Biography

Jean Brun was born in Jun 1735 in Chipoudie, Colony of Nova Scotia, son of Charles Brun and Anne Caissie. [1][2]

In 1752 his parents Charles and Anne-Marie were recorded on a census in Pointe-à-Beauséjour with 4 boys and 3 girls. [3] In 1755 they were residing at Aulac with the same number of children. [4][5] The children were not named on those censuses but considering Jean's age at the time, it is likely that he was counted in the household.

In 1755 the family was deported to South Carolina. [5] However, his brothers Michel and Pierre escaped deportation by fleeing to Isle Saint-Jean. [6] It is uncertain if Jean was deported to South Carolina with his parents. He disappeared from the records until 1768 when he settled in Menoudie and became one of the original tenants of Desbarres. [1][6]

Jean married Angélique Doiron, daughter of Pierre Doiron and Anne Forest of Menoudie, on 15 Feb 1772 in Menoudie. [1] The marriage was recorded in the civil register of Franklin Manor, Colony of Nova Scotia. They moved to New Brunswick by 1820 and settled at Cap-Pelé, Botsford Parish, Westmorland County.[1][6]

Research notes

There are discrepancies concerning the year of Jean Brun's birth (1734, 1735, 1739), and the date of his settlement in Cap-Pelé (1805, 1820).

B27-p.27-b.dt of Jun 1735. It was possible that he was exiled to North Carolina with his parents. He reappeared in Acadia in October 1762, because he is listed with a list of prisoners with his brother Pierre at Fort Edward, Windsor. He settled at Miudie with his brother Pierre in 1768. He married in Minudie. About 1820, the family settled at Cap Pele where Jean died in 1831. [9]
